Sports Academy

On Thursday 20 June, a group of us called Sports Academy went to Hamilton. We went up in two mini vans, girls in one and boys in the other. The girls van was quite crazy and loud. We stop off for a break before going to Chiefs Work out place.

We arrive at the Chiefs, everyone couldn't wait to meet the Chiefs. We got taken up stairs which there were punching bags and trendmils and rowing machines all lined up. Since it was raining the players wanted to get there outdoor training before it rained to hard so we didn't get to watch them. One of the players called Matt talked to us, he has been in the Chiefs for 2 years now. He also went to Rotoura High School and was playing cricket but then got asked to join the 15s Rugby Team. The lady who was there also told us that the chiefs have a day to do what they want its either go to uni or go trial for a job, as they need to have a second life when they either, retire or not in the team as rugby can not be there whole life.

The Chiefs came inside and started using the weights and everything. We were all watching down on them well they did. The music played very loud and there was a lot of groaning when they lifted up the weights, they looked very heavy.

After that we hopped back into the vans and went to the Waikato Stadium where they have the rugby games. We got shown where the Waikato team works and out and there changing rooms. They have a cold and hot bath to relax thew fluids in the body after a game. The hot one is like a nice spa pool and the cold one is about 0 degrees. There was over 25000 seats in the stadium.  We got to go to level 5 which was the top top. They are the corporate boxes you have to pay ALOT of money to go in one of those but it has the best view!!

We also go to go in the run way. Which on a rugby game they come out of the tunnel and onto the field we go to do that, I thought that was pretty cool. We left the Waikato Stadium and went to this park down the road. There was a huge slide and it was soaking wet we all went down it but it went so fast at the end you would lose your balance and like slide and try and not go head first. It started pouring down with rain so we went back to the vans and headed back to school. On the way back to school we stopped at the dairy we all ran in everyone got heaps of lollies.

I thought it was really cool going to the Hamilton and see how much you have to train and how much your whole life has to stop to put everything into what you are doing. They have to train from 9:00-5:00 each day but one of those day is their career day. I wish we could have talked to more to the players to get there aspect of everything, but we did talk to one. It gave me a lot to think about as sport is my life. It was a really cool day and I enjoyed it.
