45 minute inquiry

Curling

Curling is a sport many people play. The most popular age for a guy or girl is the ages between 35-49. 25-34 and 50-64 are also very popular for there ages. Only 2% are under 20 years old that play this sport. Curling is done on ice or in the olden days they used the frozen over ponds to play curling.

To play curling you need four people. The first person is called a lead they are the first person to throw the first and second stone and then they sweep for 6 sweeps. Second person throws the third and fourth stone. Third person throws the fifth and sixth. The fourth person is like the captain they are called a skip. They think of the tactics and plans for the game, also they tell you what to do. The game can go for 15 minutes. The skip person throws the first stone and when the stone stops the next person is to throw the stone.

You need equipment to play curling, you need gloves but they are optional. You use a carbon fibre curling stick with a horse head. Curling shoes and a stone which is 19.1kg heavy the stone needs to be poilshed. You need a rink that is 42.07m long and 4.28m wide.

Curling was invented and found in medieval in scotland in the year 1541 . In 1998 curling was put into the winter Olympics. You can play outside or inside.

45min Inquiry

Tauranga Port imports and exports logs from Asia, Australia  Pacifica, America  UK, Europe  Middle East Africa and New Zealand.

They come and go on ship, train or trucks. The trees are mostly pine trees. The logs are taken to factories because they can be made into paper. They come on the big container ships.

TGC Orientation Day

Today 300 year 8 girls from Tauranga Intermediate and heaps of other people went to Tauranga Girls College for orientation day. Mrs Ferguson the deputy principle talked to us about the school and the opportunity that they have.

Ms Leech took us around the school with some year 9 girls hunter. We looked at all the classrooms from the outside. We went into a classroom and got given information about next year. We talked for 1 hour all up the good and the bad of the school.

We went back to the old gym and said good bye. I am excited for next year but nervous as well of getting lost!

45min Inquiry

The first picture is a Totem pole. Most people call the totem pole a "story pole." They are man made carvings. The carver carves it about family. The totem pole can memorialize deceased person. Can also represent a animal or clan. The biggest totem pole is 56.4m.

Second picture is a boomerang. The boomerang is first came from Australia. They were used for hunting and you throw the boomerang and it spins in a perpendicular way. You throw a boomerang by holding the bottom of the boomerang. It needs to be thrown on a 5 to 10 degree angle.

Maori Carvings is this a third picture. The Toi Carving represents a special person. A lot of carvings can be seen in maraes.

Inuit whaling boots are for a child and they are made out of whale seal leather which is gray. White ribbon and is an Artic Souvenir

What are these things and what do they have in common.
1. Totem Pole
2. Boomerang
3. Maori carving
4. Inuit whaling boots

They are all apart of cultures.

Koi Carp Bow Hunting

On Saturday Mrs Mills went Bow fishing in the Waikato at Huntley. They used the bow and arrow to kill the Koi Carp because they are pests. They are pests because the pollute water quality and are a serious problem in Australia and New Zealand.
They eat native fish and their eggs, also they dig up the mud stirring the water and it kills native trees.
Koi Carp can grow up to 80cm and can weigh up to 10kgs.

Koi Carp is eatable but is a very oily fish and not many people like them. They breed between August & September. They are found in the Waikato and in Auckland. They are in lakes rivers & creeks.

To use the bow in arrow you put the arrow in the bow and set it at your target. Aim for about 15cm below where the fish is because of the refraction of the light, speed and direction.
The arrow needs a line attached to it because then you can receive the fish after you have killed it with the arrow. You don't need a license to do this.

Mrs Mills went boe hunting fishing last weekend because the koi carp were spawning (breeding) and they come into the shallows to do this.

You can hunt for Koi Carp in Tauranga in lakes, rivers and ponds but are more found in the Waikato or Auckland. Mrs Mills caught caught 6 Koi Carp she didn't not throw the fish back into the water because you can be fined.  She left them on the side of the lake and were taken by some fishermen.

Which button would you pick and why?

I choose yellow button. Which gives me the ability to read peoples minds.
I choose this one because then I can read peoples and my friends mind to see if they are telling the truth or lying. Also if I was a judge or a police officer I would be able to read the victims mind to see if they are telling the truth or not. If I could read someones mind then I would know what they think of me and when I'm not around.

Tennis Sport

Today room 41 had a Tennis tournament. We had to go into partners my partner was Anna. We were playing in the tournament first. We versed Jahna and Lauren first and we won! We played all the girls and kept our title. We played Mrs Mills and Sharnae and they beat us by 1 point. But then we got in again and got hold our title again.

Anna and I were the best girls so we played the best boys which were Kyle and Matthew. Unfortunately we lost 5-1. But we are still the best girls at tennis in our class.

Before we started playing we adapted the rules of the game. The double pair if they won they only had to get three points. For serve you didn't have to do over arm you could do under arm. You can have a double fault.

It was hard hitting the ball lightly because I was used ti hitting a hockey ball really hard. I improved on hitting the ball softer over the 2 days we did tennis.

Anna and I did really well I personally thought we worked well as a team and got an amazing result out of it :)

Beyond the story

October 10, 2011

I hear the slapping of the water hit the ship in the cool morning air. My captain Mauro Balomaga was steering the Rena ship. Mauro left the controls to me. My name is Leion and I’m the navigator. We decided to take a shortcut close to Astrolabe Reef to try and save money on fuel. We took several short cuts on the trip in order to make it to the Port of Tauranga on time. “Creeeeaak!” the ship slowly stopped. I felt my body jolt as the boat slowed to a stop. Rena was stuck on the reef. I saw everyone running around. Watching the containers crash into the water, everything tipping. Saying to myself, “S**T, this is all my fault!” Helicopters came swooping in, rescuing everyone on board.

Mauro and I were arrested the next day. Watching everyone sitting in the courtroom, some of the ladies had tears rolling down their cheeks and had to leave the room. We were jailed for 7 months. We go to our prison cell. The dark room with two beds and a toilet sat in the empty room. They slam the gate behind us. Mauro and I left here for 7 months. Sitting here, tears roll out of my eyes. Thinking, what did I do? All I wanted was to be in my own bed and with my family but instead I’m here.

Long nights and days we sat in the prison cell. We got a newspaper every week. I was too ashamed and scared of reading them so there was a pile in the corner of the dark room. But one day I decided to read a few to see what my mess had down. Headlines ‘Rena’ as I read I was trying to hold back the tears.

‘No one else has been able to move the container ship. Halfway through January the ship broke in half’ Watching the black, gooey oil drift through the water onto the golden sand. The clear water turning into dark. Big containers from the ship floated to shore or sunk,” said the lady who had come to Tauranga for a holiday and was truly disappointed that this had happened.

A few months later still sitting in the empty cell with Mauro. All my facial hair growing. Every night I have problems sleeping. I wake up yelling or sweating from nightmares about the night and that thinking I am a bad person. I read another newspaper from when the accident happened.

Headlines: Rena destroying wildlife

“The big containers came crashing onto the beach. Broken into bits. Bits of driftwood floated ashore. On the 13th October the beaches were closed due to all the oil, containers and driftwood. Public volunteered to help clean up the oil and rubbish along the beaches because it affected a lot of people. 2,500 birds died from this incident. Penguins, birds and fish were killed. Oil getting into their lungs and gills and stopping them from breathing. The oil getting stuck in the penguins lungs and all of their wings not making them able to fly”.

Not only had I had ruined the ocean and the ship but I had ruined the nature and wildlife of the beach. Gushes of tears come run down my cheeks. I rip up the newspaper and throw it into the corner with all the other newspapers.

May 2012: Mauro and I are out of jail and set into the world again. Seeing the bright light blinded me. Just seeing all the colours made me smile. Being in the dark dirty room just made you sad and lonely. I regret doing what I did and know my decisions were stupid and thoughtless. The Rena is still out in the water but most of it has sunk. Some of the birds and animals were helped which I was happy about. They were set free at the beach where the public could watch all the penguins waddle into the ocean. I went down to the beach. I sent out a penguin and watching it waddle to the ocean and gliding on its stomach just made me smile, knowing that I did my time and now I’m ready to start over.

Waimarino

Yesterday room 41 & 42 went on a trip to Waimarino for the day. We arrived there and room 41 did kayaking first. We get shown how to put the buoyancy aid on and how to hold the paddle. We spent 2 hours nearly on the water kayaking. We all rafted up, which means you join all the kayaks to make a circle. We played cat and mouse. The water was very chilly! Sharnae, Lauren and I stood up and paddled and all of us fell in. Sharnae fell in the most.

We came back to Waimarino and had lunch. Now the land activities/water activities. I did the water slide twice but the second time I choked on the water. I was to chicken to jump off the high dive. I went on the UFO which is a trampoline on water and there was a mini blob on it which I did. But we had three people on it with Hoani, Nicole and I and then Hoani has to push us off. Sharnae got double blobed by Felila and Milly.

I think other schools should go there because... It is a great experience you learn how to T rescue and how to kayak. Also you are having fun but learning at the same time.

Key Competencies:
Managing Self- You have to manage yourself, you had to know where your limits were and not to get everything wet if you didn't have any warm clothes.
Relate to others- Not tease people if they can't do something and not to pressure them.
Thinking: Think if it is safe to do the activities and to see if it is safe that you won't land on anyone.
Using signs and symbols- You had to read the signs to know what to do and to see how to do the activities safely.
Participating and Contributing- Waimarino you have to participate in something.

Attitude Assembly

Yesterday we had a whole school assembly. We had a guy named Dave come and speak to us about Attitude. At the start he told us about him and that he had a twin and the only way you could tell the difference from who's who was his twin was the ugly one. He also told us heaps of other story. Once he went to a school and he saw a guy throw an apple at another boys head and the boy turned round ate the apple that exploded in his head and said you threw nice throw. He was trying to explain if a girl got hit in the head with an apple they would turn around with "you will die" look in their eyes going " who threw that? was it you?" Girls and boys react differently.

The things that make you you are...
Your genes: You are made up of looks by your parents. Example: if your dads dad is bald then you will most likely go bald.
Your environment: Everything has happened around impacts on how you come as a person. Your cultural the sports you play, your family and your friends have a huge impact on how you act.
Your choices: You can choose to be: positive / enthusiastic / a whinger / selfish / generous / lazy / wacky / successful and a thousand other shades of attitude. Sure, you can't switch moods on and off like a light switch, but you can choose your attitude.

12 Hour Relay

On Friday we had 12 hour relay. I was in the team that was running for the 12 hours. Lachie and I were captains for the A team. We had to be at school by 6:30am. Everyone was dressed in there house colors. Jessica,Sophia,I and heaps others put heaps of red spray paint in our hair. I did 12 laps all up which I did better than last year but right on about 4:00 I hurt my ankle was not able to run again that day. It was such a fun day. Everyone enjoyed it. Even though we didn't raise enough money to go to paintball again this year we still all tried our best in the relay. For the fun run and walk for the non people we came second. The day finished at 7:00pm. It was raining towards the end but it stopped for the end hour of the relay. We came 4th overall. 1st was Totura 2nd was Kahiktia and 3rd was Miro.

Life Education - Addiction

This graph shows that every time a person takes the drug they go on a high and then a low but each time they get a low they take the drug again. Taking the drug again they don't get to the fantastic high they had the first time. So a person takes the drug again and again to until the drug makes them feel normal. Without the drug they would feel cold and like the flue but 20 times worse. The person will keep taking the drug to make them feel normal.

Addiction is when a person takes a drug to feel normal.
The function of the brain is effected by drug use.

Memory
Reason
Judgement
Mechanical skills

Why do bees swarm?

There is a huge swarm of bees that is a on a rose bush at our school.

Why do bees swarm?
When a queen leaves the hives and takes workers with her. Up to 10 thousand bees could be in the swarm. There can only be one queen at a time otherwise it gets crowded. So they fly around to find a new place. Mostly happens in Spring.

AIMS Games

Last week we had AIMS. I competed in one event which was hockey. AIMS stands for associated, intermediate and middle school.

On the Monday our first game was at Bethlehem College. We were versing Pinesville. The games were shorter they were 20mins each way. At the end of our game we won 6-0. We were so happy. Our second game of the day we played Murray's Bay 2-1.

We came first in our pool games which meant we had to have a cross over game with someone who came second against St Cuthpits. So that meant we were playing off for either 5th,6th,7th or 8th. We won our semi final to come either 5th or 6th but then we lost our final so we came 6th.

We came 6th last year as well as this year. I think we did really well it was a long week!

Jump Jam

On Saturday 14th September the Tauranga Intermediate School Jump Jam competed at north island champs. A few months ago we sent a DVD off to get judged. We came 1st out of New Zealand. Our song was Proud Mary. The top 10 teams from north and south island competed. We were against 10 teams from the north island.

We had to met at 8am at the hair parlor. It was such an awesome place it had black and white square floors and a juke box. It was so retro! We all got our hair done. It was crimped and then put up and back combed. We really did look like Tina Turners! We had red tassel dresses. Angel was a boy she she wore a waist coat and Olivia was Tina Turner she wore the same dress as us but in black.

We all drove to Bethlehem College where we were competing.  The year 5&6 category was still going so we went and watched. After that we went down to the green room to touch up our makeup and go through the routine. We got all our photos taken and waited backstage for our call. The music comes on it starts. Seeing all the people in the auditorium made me happy with our bigs smiles we were loving it!

Everyone came back out then the judges announces the winners. "Second place is... Aquinas College" said the judge. Then we were all silent "and in 1st place is... Tauranga Intermediate"!!! screams came from the team we jumped up and received our trophy and our certificates. We were going to nationals!!!!!

One of the Family SPCA 2013

In second block the whole Tauranga Intermediate had a whole school assembly. Norm Hewitt came to our school and talked to us. Norm Hewitt is a rugby player who plays with the All Blacks. Norm Hewitt had a dream of being a cowboy. But when he watched the All Blacks play in 1976 he changed his dream, he wanted to be an All Black instead of a cowboy.

Norm had a lot of animals. He had a horse called Tommy he used to ride him at night so he didn't have to watch his father beat up his mother. He also had a cat called Fluffy he was a fluffy cat, and two dogs called Storm and Trixie. He told us that he told all his secrets to his animals, they didn't judge him on how he looked or anything they were good listeners.

Whaea Shelly was a person who had adopted lots of animals from the SPCA. She has a bull dog called Ozzy he is 77 years old in dog years and 11 years in human years. Whaea Shelly told us what the five freedoms are, Shelter you have to have shelter that will keep your animal warm on cold days and good shade in the hot days. Food and water, also being able to access food and water at anytime. Exercise making sure it is healthy and gets all the exercise outside as possible. Love, all animals need love and even humas do to. Vet care making sure you animal has the best care as possible and making sure it is not unwell.

Norm Hewitt grew up in Pironghia with his family. There was only 23 people at his school. One third of those people were Norm's brothers and sisters. The three things at Norm loves is the All Blacks, Fish 'n' chips and Cowboys. Norman also won the Dancing with the stars 2001.

Setting and Story Openings

WALT: describe the setting of a story using ‘show’ not ‘tell’
SC:
- to use descriptive language to help the reader visualise the setting
- to use language that activates the readers’ senses e.g smell and sound
- to use similes and metaphors to describe the setting
- to use interesting vocab to describe the setting

Walking through the doors. Hearing the doors sounds go “ding dong.” The smell drifted under my nose. The strong smell of animal food surrounded me. The cute little kittens ran around in there little cages like crazy children on to much sugar. Birds in their cages chirping to the music that was in the background. Puppies were fast asleep on one another. Walking around the aisles, hearing the toys getting squeaked. Watching the kids run around the store going “look mummy look how cute the animals are, can we get one?” Walking down the aisle stood fish tanks the faint sound of the bubbles bubbling in the tank......

Comment: I really enjoyed reading your story because it was easy to find out what the scene was and you described everything well.

Girls' Self Defense

For the past day and a block, the year 8 Rimu girls went to a self defense course over at the school fitness centre. We had done the same programe last year but also doing it this year has refreshed our memory.

On the Monday we went to our lesson, our teacher was called Ali. She was very nice. We talked about situations were we can use self defense. Also that we wouldn't get in trouble if we hurt someone or told them to back off as it is girls' right.

We learnt how to do the ballerina kick were you point you toe and it goes right up in between the legs. Also the shin kick and shin scrap. All of these places are sensitive places and that would have the attacker in pain for a few seconds for you to escape and run away.

Ali told us about stories about girls being attacked by men, there is a 83% chance that the attacker could be someone you know and the other 13% is totally strangers. 98% of men attack girls from the age of 8 but can also be younger as the attacker will think the little girl is weak. The other 2% is girls attacking girls, it is a very slim chance but is still possible.

Girls have the right to fight back if they are being touched in an area that is not were they should touch. The attacker will not expect girls to fight back, but when they do they are mostly likely going to just go.
We also learnt about using natural weapons instead of knives and guns. If you are in your bedroom you could grab a comb and scrap it across his face, rip his nostril or ear. Stabbing a pen in the eyes, he should let go and you will have time to escape.

One thing she told us is to never ever give up hope. The three girls who go found in a basement of a house over 10 years they were beaten. But they never gave up hope to escape and one of the girls did with her 6 year old. Even with Madeline Mcann she was abducted when she was 4 and hasn't been seen since. Hopefully she is still fighting or trying to get out.

A few years ago the police men interview some attackers, and they said they go for the shy people and the weak ones. Most men attack girls because they know they have power over them and is the boss. But if they were to attack strong girl who didn't show fear even though she might be feeling it inside they wouldn't except her to yell or fight back at him.

The thing I learnt was if you are walking some where and a dodgy person is looking at you don't hudge your shoulders and put your head down because they will know you are weak and will mostly likely attack you. If you have your shoulders back and head up they know that you are strong and not afraid.

I think it was good that we went back as year 8 and it reminded us everything. Also being older we understood it more.

Hearing Loss Lesson

Today we went for a hearing loss lesson with Toni. This lesson was to tell us how dangerous loud decibals are to us.

A fact is you can listen to things that are 85d or less for a long period of time. But if you listen anything over 85d then it can ruin your hearing lose, the time decreases with the decibel getting higher and higher.

The thing I learnt was the bird, fish and frogs can repair their hearing loss. If the little hairs get damanged they grow back. But for humans once they are damaged they are permanently damage which can cause losing your hearing later on.

I am going to change the way I listen to my music. Turning down the volume on my phone or ipod so I can listen to it longer.

Friday 5 July 2013

A most triumphant tale.

The last couple of days we have been performing at bay court for our production. It has been a long week with shows every night but happy that it is over but sad because it has been fun being with everyone. Our first show was infront of other schools. Tauranga primary came and so did more schools. That night we also had a performance it was our real first performance in front of adults. I was in 3 scenes. The next day we had a night show. That was the best. The audience was cheering and it made you want to smile and enjoy what you are doing.

Thursday our last day. I arrive at school ready to catch the bus when Mrs Storey came up to me and said "Islah is sick, can you take her part"? I said yes. I had to learn her lines because she was in one demension which meant she was one of the leads. We arrive at bay court and I get my make up done and started learning the new dances and lines because I wasn't in all the dances she was in.

Our first performance was to our own school. I was pretty nervous as I had only danced on the stage never had to talk. I got all mic up and went to the stage with Mackenzie and got a sound check. Then the curtain comes and it's all on. I was in scene three. Then it was my turn we go on stage and the music starts. I try and remember all the moves and I did. I just forgot to lip sync the lines.

We go off stage we have a quick costume change we only had about 2 minutes to get fully unchanged and into our next costume. We go on stage. I was talking in this scene. I sat down and was on my phone. I start talking I could hear my voice going through the speakers. I try and remember all my lines. I think I did we'll. next costume change was into rumour has it. I remember to lip sync in this one. This dance was fun because we had the choir and everyone singing.

Once we are off stage another quick change into our final countdown. I finally get change and I was on stage. Remembering my dance that was my best one. Then we had a break. My next one was swan lake.  Quick costume change into no digety. I loved that one that was fun. Then we had th curtain call that was fun because I got to go on with one dimension.

It was such a good experience. I loved it. I wish it went longer but everyone is very tired and tried there best. Mrs storey and Jessica Ross directed and wrote the script.

Home work

E6. Join the production, choir, a band or Kapa Haka participating in all rehearsals and performances for the year

I choose to do production, you had to audition and I got in for a dancer. We have had long hours of practicing on Sundays and everyday at school. But the time has come. We have done 3 shows already! We did our first show on Tuesday night. There wasn't much people and the crowd wasn't the best but there was clapping. The next show was Wednesday lunch time. We did it for school, Tga Primary, Green park. Then we had our night show. There was soooo many people they cheered and clapped it was so cool. I love being on stage, especially dancing on stage. Our last shows are today. Our daytime one to our school and then the last night show. My favorite bit is the curtain call, were you run on stage and bow it so fun!

Home work

P7. Design your own challenge

For my design a challenge I picked to make it into the Aims team for school and also get in for the A rep team in Tauranga. We had our trials for Aims last week we played the B team in a game of hockey. The next day we found out if we were in the team and.... I got into the Aims team! I was soooo happy! I went to Aims last year and it was so much fun!!

We had three rep trials one each weekend on Sunday. The first trial we just did the 12 minute run and played mini games as it was raining. The next Sunday was also a open trial so anyone could go. We did skills and then played a game. The third trial was invite only, I got an invite back. Getting an invite means your are mostly likely going to get into the top team or the development team. We played 6 20 minutes games. It was very tiring but 2 hours of hockey was fun! The next day I look on the website and the list was up! I had got in!!! They mostly only take year 8 in the Top team because the development is to develop the year 7 for next year. But I got in!!  I got in last year into the Collier top team. Leah,Tessa and myself were the only year 7's which we thought that was pretty good us getting into a team full of year 8's and we were the tiny year 7's. We have our first training Sunday.

HomeWork

P5. Compete in a sport for an entire season

I choose hockey as my home work challenge. Our last game is this friday for the end of round 1, we are playing off for 1st and 2nd against.... Otumoetia We played them last week and unfortunately lost to them. But it was the first time this year we have lost to them as we have beat them twice this year. We are having round 2 after this. Hopefully if we lose or win tonight we will still be at the top of the table.

Sports Academy

On Thursday 20 June, a group of us called Sports Academy went to Hamilton. We went up in two mini vans, girls in one and boys in the other. The girls van was quite crazy and loud. We stop off for a break before going to Chiefs Work out place.

We arrive at the Chiefs, everyone couldn't wait to meet the Chiefs. We got taken up stairs which there were punching bags and trendmils and rowing machines all lined up. Since it was raining the players wanted to get there outdoor training before it rained to hard so we didn't get to watch them. One of the players called Matt talked to us, he has been in the Chiefs for 2 years now. He also went to Rotoura High School and was playing cricket but then got asked to join the 15s Rugby Team. The lady who was there also told us that the chiefs have a day to do what they want its either go to uni or go trial for a job, as they need to have a second life when they either, retire or not in the team as rugby can not be there whole life.

The Chiefs came inside and started using the weights and everything. We were all watching down on them well they did. The music played very loud and there was a lot of groaning when they lifted up the weights, they looked very heavy.

After that we hopped back into the vans and went to the Waikato Stadium where they have the rugby games. We got shown where the Waikato team works and out and there changing rooms. They have a cold and hot bath to relax thew fluids in the body after a game. The hot one is like a nice spa pool and the cold one is about 0 degrees. There was over 25000 seats in the stadium.  We got to go to level 5 which was the top top. They are the corporate boxes you have to pay ALOT of money to go in one of those but it has the best view!!

We also go to go in the run way. Which on a rugby game they come out of the tunnel and onto the field we go to do that, I thought that was pretty cool. We left the Waikato Stadium and went to this park down the road. There was a huge slide and it was soaking wet we all went down it but it went so fast at the end you would lose your balance and like slide and try and not go head first. It started pouring down with rain so we went back to the vans and headed back to school. On the way back to school we stopped at the dairy we all ran in everyone got heaps of lollies.

I thought it was really cool going to the Hamilton and see how much you have to train and how much your whole life has to stop to put everything into what you are doing. They have to train from 9:00-5:00 each day but one of those day is their career day. I wish we could have talked to more to the players to get there aspect of everything, but we did talk to one. It gave me a lot to think about as sport is my life. It was a really cool day and I enjoyed it.

How to make a paper lizard

How to make a paper lizard
Positive- It was easy to make the paper lizard and it looked cooler than excepted.
Minus- That it was really quick.
Improve- In prove my photos by taking them at different angles.
I achieved to finish my lizard making a how to movie.
The thing I would do differently is that I would try something more harder next time.
I achieved the SC.

40 Hour Famine

I did the 40 hour Famine for my homework.
I did two 20 hours of no eating. On Friday afternoon. Milly came to my house. After dinner and desert we started at 10:00pm that night. The next day we had to watch my sisters hockey. Milly and I walked to the super market to buy some Just Juice and barley sugars. We arrive at Countdown, we looked at ourselves knowing that we were going into a food store. We go get 7 packets of Barley sugars and 2 bottles of Just Juice. Walking down the confectionary isle looking at all the sweet and sour lollies and chocolate. We pay and walk out. We walk out and to our left there was a group of people selling sausages and bread. The yummy sweet smell of the freshly cooked sausages on the BQQ.We quickly walked away.

We walk back to hockey watching the little kids try and hit a hockey ball. After that we go back home to were we made bracelets  while my family was having lunch as we didn't want to watch them eat. I had jump jam from 2-4 I took some of my barley sugars just incase I needed some energy  We went over the jump jam routine about 5-8 times. After that I watched cheerleading for about an hour as Sattori and Lauren were coming to my house for the 40 hour famine.
Sattori's mum picked us up and took us to my house. Sattori and I had started the famine on Friday and we had just finished 20 hours at 5:00. Lauren and Jahna hadn't started. So Sattori and I finished at 20 hours and had dinner with Lauren and Jahna we had pizza and muffins for desert it was really nice. We started at 6:30pm on Saturday night again. We ate barley surgars and watched movies.

The next day we woke up really early to it raining. We just stayed in home theatre watched tv and computers. We got ready and did each others hair a we were going to the movies which it was for Millys birthday. We started getting really hungry at the movies. We watched fast and furious 6. It was a long movie. At 2:30pm was when we finished so we ran out of the movies and got popcorn and drinks and went back in to watch the rest of the movie.

Im glad I choose to do the 40 hour famine. As it makes you realize that what those kids are going through overseas in other countries with no food.  I did 40 hours but stopped in between 20 hours as. I wasn't allowed to do full 40 hours. I'm happy I did, I got to spend the weekend with my friends and had an awesome time!!!

G1. Give to children in need: Participate in the 20 Hour famine. Raise a minimum of $40.00

I am doing this task this weekend, from the 7-9 of June. But I am only doing 20 hours. My friends and I are doing it together. So hopefully we are able to make it through the 20 hours without eating.

HomeWork

A1. Improve your maths ability: Complete a random 10 x 10 grid in under 2 min

For homework we have to complete a 10x 10 grid. I did my first one and I got 2mins and 9secs.
My goal is to get under 2mins. Hopefully this will be an easy goal I just need to get rid of the 9secs.

Cemetery Investigation

Today I went to the cemetery down Grace road. We got to look around the cemetery looking for the youngest people who died, and things that we found interestring. The earliest person that we found who died was in 1914. The most recent one was 2012.

There was heaps of Grave stones some of them were very old which the moss had grown over the writing. There was new ones and flash grave tones were the writing was clearly engraved.

When we were looking around we tried to find out who was the oldest person who had died. The one we found was 90 years old. The most popular ones were between 40-80. The youngest person we found was 6 months old. There was also a kid who died at the age of 10.

The person I want to investigate would be Ivy Elizabeth Tanner. Who died in Wahi and was the age of 5. I want to find out how she died.

Camp Graph

20.05.13
WALT: create data displays using appropriate tools on the computer.
We had to include, a title, include numbers down the y asis and sub titles along the x asis. We had to have whole numbers down the y asis so then it is easier to read

Do you think I achieved the success criteria?

G7 Adopt a pet

About a month ago my family got 2 pet kunikuni pigs. They have changed over the time we have had them here. They have gotten huge! well compared to what they were before they have gotten quite big especially Oscar. They have gotten friendly they will come up to and just run around waiting for you to pat them. They love there food. You let them out to eat and all you hear is "oink oink" coming from around the corner for them spiriting for their food. Personal I thought it was crazy have to pigs as little pets but now its not so crazy they have joined the family. They will sometimes run through out the kitchen and lounge, I think it is just to annoy dad by running inside. They are very fast watching them run all over the place. They meet the horses the other day. The pigs loved them! but my horse did not every time one of the pigs went near Zinnie he would left his back legs. But he would never actually kick the pigs its just letting them know that you doesn't like it. The pigs have gotten on well with everyone in our family. The dog just seems to love having someone to chase or to be chased by. The cat also quite like the pigs but looks at them from a distance. The pigs have learnt us responsibility as we have to feed them, clean were there sleeping, make sure they have food and water etc.  I quite like the pigs now. But sometimes they just make to much noise sometimes!

Pictures to come.....

Camp Happenings

Camp Happenings

Finish each sentence and find an image to go with it

The funniest happening on camp was....Funniest moment was when I was holding a worm I showed milly and she screamed. For the Scavenger Hunt we had to find all these things on the list (feather, pebble etc) One of the things on the list was a warm. We had to dig up the ground to find a worm. We found a really big one. We got back to camp and went up to Milly we opened our hand and she screamed. It was so funny that she was scared of a worm.

The biggest challenge on camp was.... paintball doing the rabbit run with only 1 layer of clothes on and no shoes. My group and our buddy group were doing paintball. I decided I was not going to do it, since I had done it last year and it really hurt. So I was watching everyone else play Paintball and right at the end it was time to do the rabbit run. I asked mr hart if I could play. He said yes. I borrow some pants and a jumper from Sattori since I had just gone up in shorts and a jumper and jandals. I had to do the rabbit run in my socks and when I was running I got shot right in the foot by Mr Hart.

The scariest happening on camp was.... When the boys chased us with the big spider. The girls found a spider in the girl toilets when they were cleaning them. It was a huge spider. All the boys said “come have a look at this” so we all crowd around Tama and the ice cream contain not knowing what was in there as we weren't there when they had found it. He opens the lid and all of a sudden all you hear is screaming of everyone. They chased us around with the spider it was hugeous spider I had ever seen!

The most exhausting moment was …... When I had to kayak for the clash of the camp. On the Friday of Camp we had to do the Clash of the Camp. There was 10 activities and we all had to do at least one. We were in our camp groups. I got chosen to do kayaking as the day before I got the girls record for kayaking which was 1:15 which was the same as the boys record. It was really fun but it was tiring knowing that you have to paddle really hard to try and win.

The most embarrassing moment was.... when I had just beaten the record for mountain biking and so had Travis from room 42. So Mr Hart say “I know why they two are so good, because they have been biking together” That was really embarrassing.

The most dangerous moment was.... when Felila was bouncing on the Tramp at camp and she did a backflip and she landed on her neck back. I was in the kitchen and all we heard was this big scream. She was on the tramp for about 45-1 hour waiting for the ambulance to come. We were all sitting inside waiting for it arrive and hoping felila was ok. She was covered with blankets and the parents were holding her neck because they did’nt want to move it just incase it makes her injury worse. The next day she came back still sore but she did all the activities like normal!

3 things I learnt- I learnt to wear shoes to paintball, how to make a bivouac which we had to sleep in one of the nights at camp, how to make damper which tasted not very nice but it would if it was all you were able to eat if you were in the bush.

2 things I was surprised about- I was surprised that I beat the girls recorded for kayaking. I was surprised that I jumped in the water it was freezing.

I question I still have- why can’t camp be longer

Boys and Girls seemed to like Hamburgers the most.
The least dinner that was not liked very much was the sausages and vege.
Boys seemed to like the Hamburgers the best.
Girls seemed to not like sausages and vege.
Only boy liked the rice and mince.
