Why do bees swarm?

There is a huge swarm of bees that is a on a rose bush at our school.

Why do bees swarm?
When a queen leaves the hives and takes workers with her. Up to 10 thousand bees could be in the swarm. There can only be one queen at a time otherwise it gets crowded. So they fly around to find a new place. Mostly happens in Spring.
